ANDREWS WATER HEATERS 'MAXXflo' WINS INNOVATION CATEGORY OF THE QUEEN'S AWARD 2007

A Queens Award for Enterprise has been won by Andrews Water Heaters, leading UK commercial water heating specialist and a business unit of Baxi Heating UK Ltd. The Award, in the Innovation Category, is for development of the MAXXflo stainless steel condensing commercial storage water heater.

MAXXflo is the first product of its kind on the UK market and was judged to be, "An outstanding innovation in energy efficient high performance production of volume hot water for large residential, commercial and industrial applications. Its highly efficient heat exchanger, special burners and tank design enable high performance, low energy consumption and low running costs to be combined with low carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions. In addition it has an anti-Legionella feature which contributes to improved health and safety."

A delighted Paul Hardy, Managing Director, said of the product, "MAXXflo is a truly exciting development for the sector, which brings water heating technology right up to date. Although not the first storage water heater to adopt a condensing principle, it utilises innovative condensing technology with the primary return to the burner module coming from the bottom of the tank.

This allows up to 80% of the tank volume to be heated in condensing mode, which had not before been achieved in a production model. The resulting net efficiency is a high 109% with extremely low Nox emission figures of 25ppm".

As to what the Queen's Award means to the Company Paul Hardy declared, "Andrews began the UK commercial water heating revolution in 1976 by introducing direct gas-fired storage water heaters for commercial installations that could use up to 65% less gas compared with standard boiler/calorifier installations. Early independent performance trials of MAXXflo are already showing that further significant savings can be made over the standard efficiency units. They can also be a component part within a commercial hot water system that utilises renewable technology, such as solar thermal, to maximum effect. As a market leader, Andrews will continue to utilise its technological capability and expertise to develop ever more efficient products that will reduce running costs and lessen environmental impact. The recognition of MAXXflo's success by The Queen's Award is testament to the forward thinking and endeavour of everyone in the company".

Paul Hardy Managing Director of Baxi Commercial Heating "wishes to thank all our valued customers".
